My Darling

Aren’t you America?
Thought that was you.
You seem to be missing
justice, integrity, pride.
Still, you are recognizable.

My Darling

What have you done to yourself?
You’re withholding charity
without remorse.
Here’s a kiss.
No?
What offering will
help you to see that you are not
tainted
bestial
unworthy?

My Darling

Put on your red white and blue,
the one with the stars.
No?
Then here’s your crown.
Will you love yourself then?

My Darling

There are many colors for you.
You know how you love colors.
Here.
Take them.
Paint them all over yourself.
You are your own designer.

My Darling

Why fret so?
Yes, you have behaved badly,
but still you give so much.
Stop beating yourself up so.

My Darling

Why do you shame yourself
in front of the world?
Do you not think
you deserve more?
Do you not think
your legacy is greatness–love?

My Darling

Here.
Put on your
stars and stripes.
Flaunt your beauty.
Prove you taste of milk and honey.

My Darling
